Do you give with an open heart?

Do you give? When do you give? Do you look for a return on your giving as an investment? Here is my thoughts on giving

Deuteronomy 16:17

Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you.

Are you a giver?

In today’s “all about me” society we can find many of our fellow men and women who just don’t give anymore. More and more people don’t give attention, time, help, hugs, comfort, a listening ear, a kind word, food, support and for sure not money.

Would you take the time to give a listening ear to someone that just needs to be heard? Would you feed the hungry? Cloth the cold? Hug the depressed? Help the elderly? Give your attention to a needy child? Give money to a person in need?

What does the Bible say about giving?

It comes as no surprise to any Christian and should come as no surprise to anyone of any faith that the bible says many things about giving. In fact there are verses throughout the Bible that mentions how we as Christians should give, and help our fellow man. Proverbs, Mathew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans and many others all have verses about giving.

Deuteronomy 16:17

Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you.

Notice it does not say “give your money“, nor does it say in anyway to put yourself at a hardship to give. It says “give as he is able“. Give when you can where you can as your blessings allow.

Give Your Blessings To Others

Give by sharing the blessings you have with others around you. So many get offended when you mention “giving” but those same people also associate giving to money. If you have a few dollars and are able to bless someone in need with that money that is your choice. We all have been blessed with many things and many ways we can bless those around us.

If you have been blessed with two arms you would be amazed at what GIVING a hug to someone in need will do for them and you.

When you were blessed with good ears nobody said you can’t GIVE some of your time to just listen to someone that really needs to talk to you.

Take time from your day to GIVE it to someone that could really use your time. Help a friend, help a family member, rake the leaves for an elderly person.

Have extra food? GIVE a warm meal to someone in need. The person needing a meal is not always homeless, there are many times the person needing a meal is much closer to you than people like to think about. Maybe a family member or friend that has fallen on hard times. It could be a neighbor that has fallen on hard times.

One of the simplest things to GIVE is kind words. You simple kind word to a person that is down could change their entire day. Kind words are very contagious and very uplifting when people hear them. Even in passing to a stranger and a compliment can make that persons day.

Don’t Be An Investment Giver

Give without return. Give without attention. Give without retribution. Give without attention.

When you give it should always be done from the heart. Giving does in fact make the giver feel better but should be done without expecting a return on your investment. Giving to others is not an investment and should never be done expecting something in return. It’s like people that tithe in church expecting to be blessed 10 fold for their tithing.

Don’t give food to the needy expecting your lawn to be mowed later. Don’t give money expecting a return on it later. Don’t give anything expecting a return. Giving is not about returns to you but about helping others.

Don’t seek attention

When you GIVE do it from the heart not for a reward. Giving should be something that is between you and the person or persons you are giving too. The generosity you show to your fellow man/woman is not something that should be announced or shared on Facebook, gossiped about at church or bragged about to others.

I would like to ask anyone to think about what they post to social media or gossip about when it comes to helping others. If you were on hard times and your neighbor fed your family, would you want the neighbor bragging to others that they had to feed you?

It Says

The Bible tells us to love one another and care about one another. The bible teaches us to look out for our fellow man and to help where and when we can. Take a few minutes from your time where and when you can to change another persons life. You never know how much what you give will effect the person you are giving too.

Christian or not it’s never to late to change the world by starting with the people around you. It’s never to late to teach our children to love, respect and show compassion for those around us.

Proverbs 28:27

He who gives to the poor will never want, but he who shuts his eyes will have many curses.
